An Intimate New Years Wedding | Kenmore Inn

Marcel & Ellen | Fredericksburg, VA

I had been checking the forecast for weeks. The night before the wedding, I checked it four times. 23 degrees for the low, 46 degrees for the high. Nowhere did it mention clouds, precipitation, or snow of any kind. So, you have to imagine how magical it was to wake up and see that the earth had been kissed with the most beautiful dusting of snow that I have ever seen. It was the perfect surprise touch to the wintery details at Marcel and Ellen’s intimate New Years wedding. I can’t think of a better way to ring in the New Year than by saying “I do” to your one and only.

This amazing couple met while studying at the University of Tennessee. He was a student from Germany and she was headed to Arizona, but they had one thing in common: food, specifically getting their masters in Food Science and Technology. With Marcel traveling back and forth between Germany and the states, they have had to spend a lot of time apart. Their love has overcome the challenges of distance & their wedding day was a celebration of that unwavering commitment.

Since many of Ellen’s family members are from Virginia, they decided to get married in Fredericksburg – my first hometown wedding! I can’t tell you how surreal it felt to be shooting such a gorgeous wedding just a few blocks from Hyperion and Fredericksburg Square, places I have visited since a teenager! It was a day full of joy, happy tears, and laughter and I am truly overwhelmed with gratitude to have had the opportunity to witness and capture such a special day in this couple’s lives.  Congratulations Marcel & Ellen! Hope 2018 is the best year yet!

One of my favorite moments of the day – Marcel and Ellen’s faces after getting married! You better believe I was crying happy tears right along with them!

Would you believe it was past sunset when we took these bride / groom portraits? It was almost dark! Just a little bit of lingering light and my trusted 50mm f1.2 to get these shots 🙂

Seriously, the way they look at each other was just too cute!

Marcel’s family planned a special surprise for the couple – a beautifully decorated scrapbook with spaces for each guest to leave a note!

You know you married a good one when… ^

Kenmore’s hors d’oeuvres were incredible! I believe this one was cheddar soup and grilled cheese to dip in it! It was DELICIOUS!

The Shoe Game – man, I wish I had known about this one for our wedding! You ask a series of questions and, for each question, the couple holds up the shoe for who they think best fits the answer (for example – who has the craziest family?) I love photographing this one simply because the reactions are priceless!

Thank you to the amazing vendors who made this day possible!
